In Memory of Rex Honey

The WiderNet Project is deeply saddened by the loss of long-time supporter, and Executive Committee member Rex Honey. Rex died Saturday Oct 23rd at the age of 65.

A professor of Geography at the University of Iowa since 1974, Honey served, among other things, as Director of the Crossing Borders Program and for many years was the Director of African Studies. He was past Chair and served on the board of the University of Iowa Center for Human Rights and was an Executive Committee Board member for the WiderNet Project.

"Rex epitomized the faculty member whose teaching, research, and service were focused on issues he was passionately committed to: social justice, international education, and human rights," said Marc Armstrong, chair of Geography. His constant support of The WiderNet Project’s mission, as well as his involvement as a board member, helped shape the impact the project has had in underprivileged communities around the world.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the University of Iowa Foundation for the Center for Human Rights, 1 West Park Rd, Iowa City, IA 52246.
