How to Donate Surplus Equipment

University of Iowa Transfers

UI departments wishing to directly support our linkages with African universities may transfer surplus equipment to The WiderNet Project for use in our partner institutions. These transfers of equipment contribute to building the digital technology capacity of our colleagues and their institutions in Africa. They also further the educational mission of The University of Iowa and may be included in the UI cost sharing when we seek external grants.

The process works like this:

1. See the previous Donations Web page to make sure that we can use your donation. You can call 335-2200, if necessary.
2. Call UI Surplus at 335-5001 to arrange a pick-up, because UI Surplus is responsible for UI security, especially wiping hard drives. When arranging the pick-up, you need to specify that some or all of the materials are for The WiderNet Project.
3. Affix one label to each of the items (or boxes) that are for The WiderNet Project and attach a note with a list of the items with the other information for UI Surplus. To assist you, we created labels using Avery Standard 5160 Address Stickers. Click here for PDF or here for DOC.
4. Finally, please fill out a Donations form and either e-mail it to us at librarian@widernet.org or send it to us at 201 CC through campus mail. Thanks!
