Program Title |
Campus Security Certificate |
|
Type of Program |
Technical Training |
|
Training Modality |
This six-month to one-year workshop incorporates hands-on training,
distance learning, and computer-based testing. Participants may visit
the U.S. WiderNet Program office depending on the needs and wants of the
institution.
Training begins with an intensive one- to two-week course by WiderNet
staff, followed by months of distance coaching. As questions arise,
answers may be sought through several avenues, including direct email
with WiderNet staff and online discussion panels. The extended training
model allows participants adequate time to apply their lessons in the
field to increase long-term skill retention. |

Description |
This technical course trains future security personnel how to
protect a system from viruses, attacks, spam, and spyware. This "security officer"
would consult with administrators and service providers to develop an appropriate use policy.
They would then monitor the use of the campus ICT resources to insure the
network is used wisely and fairly. |

Background Information |
The cultivation of safe computing practices, expectations, and
behaviors requires ongoing education of both users and administrators to
provide consistent protection for students, professors, and
administrators. The value of their efforts is multiplied many times
over when users
can work without interruption by
viruses and spyware.
