SimuWeb
4GB of On-line, High-speed
Information
Without a real-time connection to the Internet, we are not yet
able to access the millions of servers and nearly a billion documents on the World Wide
Web. However, we have a good head start in the form of the UNIJOS SimuWeb: a Web
server attached to the UNIJOS Local Area Network with four gigabytes of Web sites copied
from the Internet.
SimuWeb includes such notable Web sites as The Virtual
Hospital, The Gutenburg Project, and that of the African Mathematical Union,
as well as many computer-related sites.
Developed by physicians at the University of Iowa, The
Virtual Hospital is a comprehensive medical resource that contains over one thousand
patient information brochures and hundreds of resources for doctors and medical students.
This site contains entire medical textbooks, used by medical schools around the
world, featuring text, images, video and audio features.
The Gutenburg Project contains over 1,200 works in the
English language which have been converted to computer text by volunteers around the
globe. It includes documents ranging from the Holy Bible and the Holy Koran to
the works of William Shakespeare, Frederick Douglass and Leo Tolstoy. Users can read
the texts on-line, copy them to a diskette for later perusal, or print them out in their
entirety.
SimuWeb offers the UNIJOS community no-cost, high-speed access to
thousands of high-quality documents and multimedia from any computer connected to the
UNIJOS network. |
