World Wide Wireless
New York Times, 2 June 1998
A new wireless phone that can operate without modification on different continents has
been developed by Audiovox and the Bosch Telecom unit of Germany's Robert Bosch G.m.b.H.
The phone, which will cost about $300, lets users make and receive calls in foreign
countries as if they were at home; it is based on the digital technology known as global
system for mobile communications (GSM), a technology that is the dominant digital wireless
technology overseas, especially in Europe.
