Discussion Groups dealing with
General International Development


This is an almost random collection of list servers which are related to international development.

Remember that all lists have two addresses: one for administrative stuff, like subscribing, unsubscribing, and finding out who has subscribed; and another for posting messages that will be replicated for every member of the list. Sending subscription messages to the wrong address will only annoy the other members of the list and give you a bad rep. In this document we only supply the administration address. Once subscribed, the server will return a message with instructions on how to post to the list, unsubscribe, and set your preferences.

As you can see in the instructions below, each list asks for slightly different information when you subscribe. This is largely due to the differences between the brands of list servers (LISTSERV and MAJORDOMO being the most common) although some list administrators may simply want more information from subscribers. AFRICA-L
Discussion of Africa today. Includes but is not restricted to the exchange of ideas for a better Africa. Of special interest will be ways to help facilitate the flow of communications (electronic and other) to and from Africa, and of SIGS (special interest groups) to assist with networking and facilitating economical and special support and assistance to bring Africa online effectively. News, lighthearted discussions, cultural, and educational items will be welcomed.

AF-AIDS                                                                                                                                Discussion and exchange of information and experiences has recently begun on AF-AIDS - A regional HIV/AIDS information network for Africa (in English and French) using the HealthDev e-mail platform. environmental and water related fields
This is a discussion list for all researchers interested in the development and application of information systems within environmental and water related fields. There is special emphasis on the incorporation of Clean Technology. Information system refers to computer based systems ranging from GIS to databases, spreadsheets to models, expert systems to neural networks. The list is not a discussion forum for the technical details of how these systems work, but is designed for those who wish to discuss ideas about their application and implementation.
