Seminars

A large portion of this course grade (30%) will depend on the amount of time and energy spent in discussing the ideas presented in the materials with others in the course. This may either be in the classroom during dedicated seminar times or via the course email list server and Web site discussion space.

Hands-On

We've scheduled four hours a week in the Main Library's Information Arcade. Up to two hours of this time will be spent on lectures and demonstrations. The remaining hours will be for individual and group instructor-assisted Internet exploration and research. Extra hours may be scheduled if the need arises.

Tests/Assignments

There will be one proctored, multiple-choice exam on technical Internet terms and concepts. (10% of overall grade.)

Each participant will create their own personal "Home Page."

Each participant will be expected to research an international topic of their choice. Out of this research they will be required to produce:

  • 25 annotated hyperlinks to premier resources in their chosen topic area (20% of overall grade)
  • a Web site which highlights the use and impact of the Internet in their chosen topic area, replete with links, citations, and a good dose of original thought. (This site should contain as much information and take as much energy to produce as a 16-page paper: 40% of overall grade)
