African Digital Library
  The African Digital Library is a free Internet library comprising more than 3000 full-text books created exclusively for residents of Africa.
   
The African Virtual University
  The AVU Catalog is a searchable database which covers a wide variety of topics. This database contains about 3855 entries which provides links to information all over the Internet. All searchable items have been indexed into browsable web pages by author, subject, title, and series. This service is provided directly by AVU.

Berkeley Digital Library SunSITE
  This digital library presents catalogs and indexes to facilitate online research. It also provides access to different collections of texts and images and information and material for digital library developers.
   
Dag Hammarskjöld Library
  Since 1946, the Dag Hammarskjöld Library at United Nations Headquarters in New York, which is part of the Department of Public Information (DPI), has arranged for the distribution of United Nations documents and publications to users around the world through its depository library system.

The Dag Hammarskjöld Library continues to move toward being a virtual library with a focus on electronic information support for multilingualism and outreach to depository libraries. The library's Internet publishing is an ongoing series of subject-focused bibliographies on various United Nations issues. It has a database that provides access to document symbols for the most frequently requested United Nations information -- known as "UN-I-QUE" or "UN Info Quest".

The library also has an interactive on-line technical assistance to small and field libraries.  The initiative is one of many spearheaded by the Special Interest Group of Library and Information Services (SIG-LIS) of the Information Systems Coordination Committee (ISCC).

  A collection of texts divided into several categories: American literature, English literature, Russian literature in English translation, French literature in English translation, distance learning, world literature in English, children stories etc.

Electronic Text Archive
  Gopher directory of books and government documents.
   
Electronic Text Center. University of Virginia
  This digital library includes an extensive online collection of texts and images as well as resources for building and maintaining similar computing enterprises.
   
Encyclopedia Britannica
  The entire encyclopedia online.
   
Eugene 4j Cyberschool Cybrary
  Index of links to online texts from different archives.
   
Bartleby Archive
  Great books online.
   
Bibliomania
  This is a commercial site that contains advertising. Includes HTML versions of books in five different categories: reference, fiction, non-fiction, poetry and Shakespeare. Some of the texts have not been proofed.
   
The Goddard Space Flight Center Library
  Many of the Library's services are available from the Goddard Library Web Site, ranging from the ability to locate and obtain specific items to the capacity to request literature search assistance. We are committed to providing timely access to scientific, technical and management information.
  Resources include on-line books and journals.  Since January 2001, selected colloquia have been digitized into Windows Media format and are available for desktop viewing.
   
Center for Electronic Studying
  The University of Oregon.  This library consists of special edition "supported text" stories, documents, and books designed for middle and high school students.
   
Informedia Digital Video Library 
  The Informedia Digital Video Library project is a research initiative at Carnegie Mellon University funded by the NSF, DARPA, NASA and others that studies how multimedia digital libraries can be established and used. The Informedia project has pioneered new approaches for automated video and audio indexing, navigation, visualization, search and retrieval and embedded them in a system for use in education, information and entertainment environments. Intelligent, automatic mechanisms are being developed to populate the library. Research in the areas of speech recognition, image understanding, and natural language processing supports the automatic preparation of diverse media for full-content and knowledge based search and retrieval.
   
The Internet Classic Archive
  Archive library- 449 works of classic literature. English versions, downloadable texts divided into sections, easy access from index of content. Commentary and reader recommended related pages.
   
The Internet Public Library
  This educational initiative at the University of Michigan School of Information presents a very large collection of online books (about 24,000). It is an archive library containing websites about authors and their works. Books are organized by author, title or literary period and there are also other materials such as journals, newspapers, government documents and reference books.
   
Intersect Digital Library
   
Library of Congress
  Digital collections from the Library of Congress. Include books, photographs prints, drawings, manuscripts and maps in the American Memory collection, Country Studies, global legal information etc.
   
The Litrix Reading Room
  Mainly English language books, American and British classics. The texts are presented in HTML files divided into chapters which makes it easy to read and hard to download. The books are searchable by author, title or theme and there are lists of top ten and new arrivals.

The Michigan Electronic Library
  The Michigan Electronic Library was the first "real" virtual library.
   
NASA Astrophysics Data System (ADS) Virtual Library
  NASA's Astrophysics Data System (ADS) Virtual Library includes links to the online books relating to astronomy and astrophysics which can be browsed and printed on demand.
   
New York Public Library Digital Collection
  Classics available free on the Internet
   
OFCN Electronic Bookshelf
  Another collection of classic texts in English. Presented in a list organized alphabetically. The texts are divided into chapters but have no extra information. One of the main problems of this collection is that it does not specify when a text is a translation from another language.
   
The On-line Books Page
  This is an index of online books and archives. It is a project at Carnegie Mellon University. Our local index includes more than 15,000 English works in various formats that meet these criteria. It includes books in foreign languages as well.
   
OnLine Literature Library
  Archive library containing works by about 30 authors. The main menu lists the authors alphabetically in order to access the titles. Books are presented by chapters with an initial table of contents.
   
Oxford Text Archive
  Electronic text centre intended to collect, catalogue and preserve electronic texts for research and teaching. It currently has about 2500 resources in 25 languages. A search engine allows to locate texts easily.
   
PG Reader.com
  It is an on-line, fully customizable reader that allows the user to adjust font sizes, as well as providing for a reading friendly font face and the ability to page through a book in much the same way as a normal hardcopy.
The PG Reader was an answer to a question. "How can I view the countless Project GutenbergTM Etexts in a more convenient way...". While there are stand-alone readers for different operating systems available, there was no way to view the Etexts through a browser, other than the plain text files themselves.

The PG Reader bridges this gap, and allows for convenient viewing of the desired Etext. We have a wide selection of Etexts located locally, and there are a number of easy ways to add your personal favourites to that collection.

It is 100% completely free to use, and every Etext available on the site is free to download as well.
   
Project Gutenberg
  Project Gutenberg provides public domain e-texts intended for a large audience in forms a vast majority of computers, programs and people can read, use and search. The collections include, major literary works such as the Bible, children literature and reference books among others.
   
SiliconBase Digital Archive
  The SiliconBase Digital Archive is comprised of over 2000 documents, including texts, images, audio, video & more
   
UNCAPS (United Nations System Shared Cataloguing and Public Access System)
  UNCAPS is the premier web site which provides a Web interface to the electronic resources of the libraries of UN system of organizations, and offers powerful search and retrieval functionality. UNCAPS provides a single point of access to library catalogs, indexes and abstract databases, library holdings, links to full-text resources, and archives.

  Wiretap is an Internet gopher resource.
   

World Bank Law Library

  The Law Library provides current awareness and research support for all the legal departments of the World Bank Group. It is a member of the Library Network of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund libraries and is open to all Bank and Fund staff for work-related legal research. Borrowing is limited to Legal Department staff members of the Bank Group and IMF.
  Its collection includes: International law, International organizations, Treaties, Arbitration, Selected laws of Bank member countries and a Treaty Index database. Its services include a Web site, General multi-media reference facilities, Internet and database training, Document delivery and interlibrary loan for World Bank Group staff, Referrals to Bank and Fund network libraries and other metropolitan area libraries, and Information procurement.
   
World Bank Publications Catalogue
  Mostly free reports on development and related matters.  Some World Bank Journals and Periodicals are free and online, some are only available by subscription.
   
World Wide School
  Archive library- Includes texts from the Gutenberg project. Texts can be located by author, title or subject. Texts are presented with a table of content by chapters which gives easy access to the different chapters.
   
The WWW Virtual Library: Library Resources
  Over 150 links to on-line collections, including books and photographs.
