Decision Makers 2001
Training and Consulting for Nigerian Universities
Sponsored by the Colleges and Universities Affiliations Program / U.S. State Department

Between June 7 and June 24th, WiderNet Project director Cliff Missen produced the first annual Decision Makers Workshop for 32 high-ranking university administrators, provided consulting for six universities, helped to launch the Nigerian-American Information Initiative, and visited the offices of three Internet providers and trainers.

The two-day intensive Decision Makers Workshop, held at the National Universities Commission in the Nigerian capitol of Abuja, was a resounding success.  It attracted dozens of top-level university administrators from eight national universities and drew rave reviews.

Missen met with hundreds of university academic and administrative staff members to provide coaching on information and communication technologies (ICT), including building networks, connecting to the Internet, strategic planning, funding strategies, and writing grant proposals.

On June 12th, Missen helped to launch the Nigerian American Information Initiative (NAII), a data warehouse for ICT initiatives around Nigeria.

"This is just to thank you and to deeply appreciate what you and the WiderNet crew are doing.  The Decision Makers workshop, which held at the National Universities Commission on June 12th and 13th, was truly worthwhile.  If nothing else, it awakened awareness and positively influenced key Decision Makers to support the ICT.  Some, already aware, were further convinced and encouraged to support ICT activities.

Well done!!!"
