Welcome First Time Users How to Use Web Documents This is an HTML based CD-ROM, meaning that it was made the same way web pages are made on the Internet. To view the this page you are likely using a web browser such as Microsoft's Internet Explorer or Netscape's Navigator. Navigating through this CD-ROM is easy. All of the blue underlined words located on each of the pages are called hyperlinks. By clicking on them once with your mouse the view changes to the page that the hyperlink points to. For example: the words "Internet Explorer" and "Navigator" a few lines before this are hyperlinks. They point to pages that are tutorials on how to use either Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. After you are finished reading this page you may click on the appropriate link to find out more about how to navigate through these pages with your browser. Another important navigation tool will be the "Back" button located near the top left hand corner of your browser window. This allows you to go to the previous page you were looking at. Use this to back out of pages that do not have links back to where you came from. The main difference between this HTML page and the pages on the Internet is that this page is stored on the CD-ROM in the drive on your computer and Internet pages are stored on a computer other then your own that also has an Internet connection and can be located anywhere in the world. Installing a Special Font Before you do anything else, please click here after you finish reading this paragraph. Clicking the word "here" will run a program that copies a few font files to your disk. These will enable you to see special symbols located on the EZ-REF training materials. After clicking the word "here" above a pop up screen will appear and you will select "Run this program from it's current location" and click "Okay". On the next screen click "Yes" and the file will run a program that will save the files to your computer. Return to this page when the installation is complete. Whenever a pop up windows appear it will usually ask if you would like to run/open the file from it's current location or save it to your computer. Always choose to run the file from it's current location option and then click "Okay". Installing Adobe Acrobat Reader If you do not have Acrobat Reader installed on your computer you will need to install it to view many of the training materials on this CD-ROM. Install Acrobat Reader by clicking here. The most helpful parts of this CD-ROM will be the Resources Guide I have created to organize the materials on this CD-ROM. Another important aspect will be the material on how to get started on the Overview of the Technician Training Program which is linked from this page, the title page, and the first page of the guide. It is important that you look at this information before you begin using the A+ and Network+ certification software. The WiderNet Project encourages trainees to use the materials on this CD to train fellow staff members and students at your universities on basic computing skills. Training sessions on such things as basic computing, navigating Windows, and using web browsers would be a great way to educate others of the world of computing and the Internet. Many of the materials (especially the EZ-REF materials) are in a great format for printing and using as training packets. To go back to the title (home) page click the link below.
